"Ja, you are too sporty..."

The Dom in Köln!

Imagine the higher pitched German accent with a bit of a lisp. This is reason acht I don't like this country. So Saturday I met up with my fellow American Lorik. He is also here on business working for another company. We went to Köln and did some sight seeing. He's had a couple week head start so he knows a bit more about where to park and so forth. Oh, and he has a navigation system in his car rental. Clearly I work for the wrong company. Anyway, we went to Köln which is a very clean interesting city as long as you don't say English only. We watched some soccer after wandering around for about 6 hours. Germany houses the second largest Turkish population, Turkey being first. We found a very large group of them and sat down to watch the match they played against Portugal. They lost, which was also interesting since there was lots of glass being broken and angry people. If you didn't know this is the year of the Euro cup. Lorik and I watched Germany stomp Poland last night 2-0 at Der Club (The Club ie. my hotel). It was an excellent match and we got to the main lobby about an hour before game time and within 10 minutes it was standing room only. It would be very interesting if Americans had a sport they took this seriously. Imagine all fans having the same emotions as the student section at an MSU basketball game. Back to reason acht. After the Turkey game we decided it was time to try out a club. First we went to Diamonds where after we said English only it was a 'members only' night. Fine, lots of clubs of course. We cross the street to some other club I can't spell. This is where we wait in line until the doorman. Once there I say zwei for two. The guy says some stuff in German, we say English only. He motions to the side, then another guy "Ja, you are too sporty for dis club." I'm wearing Samba's that are cleaner and nicer than the next guy's shoes that they let in the club. So apparently the country that brought us Nazis also dislikes Americans. I'm going to buy some boots and goosestep into the next club I go to... Maybe then I'll gain entry.

um so my ultra british boyfriend pointed out that if you tried to wear samba's into a club they would have said no cuz apparently trainers aren't allowed in nightclubs - improper dress. this coming from a country who takes fashion advice from The Hoff...makes sense.
